How To Publish Without Spamming
by Craig Richards
Getting Optimal Results With BigSender
BigSender is a powerful yet simple-to-use online contact manager and publishing system. Rather than using other slower or more costly technologies such as telephone, fax, direct mail or sending unprofessional generic messages to recipients in the cc: line in your email software, it's easy to send personalized, targeted email messages to recipients in your list with BigSender.
Because BigSender references either an existing list of contacts or begins automatically building your list after you install it (by your website visitors adding themselves), BigSender assumes you have an existing relationship with those in your recipient lists. For examples...
- Members of your organization, fan club or other group have asked to be kept updated with upcoming events, schedules and other news.
- Your recipients have requested newsletters, announcements or bulletins about your products, information or services.
- Your vendors, suppliers, resellers, customers and prospects need product and/or pricing updates from you.
- Your associates, affiliates, staff and employees need time-sensitive updates about company policies, project status reports or other company news.
- Members of print, broadcast and web media and news-gathering organizations need to be kept apprised of news, milestones and other events at your organizaton.
- Any other circumstance in which there exists an ongoing relationship between you and the recipient.
How Not To Use BigSender
Never use BigSender to send unsolicited commercial email messages (commonly known as "spam").
Following are some compelling reasons to avoid spamming with BigSender or any other technology...
- Spamming is ineffective, counterproductive and, by definition, not targeted to those who have expressed interest in your product, information or service. BigSender is designed for targeted messaging to recipients who have requested your message not bulk broadcasts to strangers.
- Spamming will likely harm your business. There are many groups on the web that are overtly hostile to and zealously committed to fighting spam and spammers. Should you find yourself the target of an anti-spam campaign, you should be aware of their many tactics any one of which is worth careful consideration:
- You may be sued in court and a substantial fine levied for each unsolicited commercial email you sent.
- You, your company, your website and even your webhosting firm (including all their other clients) may be included in "blacklists" maintained by many well-organized anti-spam newsgroups.
- Your ISP and/or webhosting firm may permanently close your account without notice.
- Your domain and all your email addresses can be added to widely-used spam filters for personal email software. These filters will detect any email from a blacklisted address and automatically route it to the trash.
- Most Internet Service Providers (ISPs) now aggressively block any and all email originating from blacklisted addresses preventing your contacts from ever receiving your messages, even if they requested them.
- These days, spam is a serious concern to anyone connected to the web... Why contribute to the problem and risk your recipients stigmatizing you and your organization as "spammers?" Despite your intention, spamming will likely have the opposite effect you desired which, for any professional, should be to build long-term relationships with your customers based on value, integrity and trust.
Because of the importance of this message to all BigSender users, these DOs and DON'Ts guidelines are now easily referenced in our BigSender Administrator Guide.
