BigSender Administrator Guide
BigSender helps you manage and use your contact lists more effectively.
For all its power, however, I designed BigSender to be among the easiest web applications you have ever installed and used. To accomplish this lofty goal, I engineered into BigSender a unique combination of self-installer technologies, plus BigSender also includes our exclusive SMART SPRING Popup Helper to guide you through every option without having to wade through a lengthy user manual.
You'll also notice that BigSender has an intuitive logic to its programming and interface designs. Throughout its development, BigSender was continually tested against my own software development prime directive, "whenever possible, let the computer do the work."
To help you use BigSender to its fullest potential or if you feel stuck at any point while installing, configuring or running BigSender, this Administrator Guide will take you "under the hood" to fill in most of the details on what really makes this online contact manager & email/web publisher so unique.
Getting Started with BigSender
BigSender has been designed specifically with the non-programmer in mind... Installing BigSender should take only a few seconds on most servers and the BigSender Configurator provides you with more than six dozen settings and options for customizing BigSender's performance and its look and feel – all with no programming or coding.
We encourage you to read through this Administrator Guide because understanding how BigSender works and how you can optimize it for your specific needs will provide you with the greatest benefit.
BigSender is used and administrated from the following eight main interfaces:
- BigSender User Interface / Main Menu
- Your contacts may add, modify and/or remove a record for themselves in your list.
- Optionally displays a dynamically generated linked index of messages an administrator has published to your BigSender Message Archive.
- You or other administrators login to access your administrator controls which are inserted at the top of the BigSender subscriber form.
- You or other administrators logout to remove the administrator controls from the BigSender subscriber form.
- You or other administrators add, modify, remove or "mark" a record in your list.
- You or other administrators add contact annotations to a record in your list.
- You or other administrators optionally check a box near any title in the BigSender Message Archive Index then click a "delete checked messages" button to permanently remove those messages from your server.
- You or other administrators optionally click the "change date" link associated with any title in the BigSender Message Archive Index to change the publication date for that message.
- You or other administrators optionally click a "delete this message" button to remove any temporary BigSender status message to administrators.
- BigSender Configurator
- Set how BigSender will manage your contact list.
- Set the appearance of BigSender's user interfaces, dynamically-generated pages as well as HTML-formatted messages.
- Select the language for user interfaces and result pages.
- Provide the text for BigSender's automatically-generated email messages.
- Point BigSender to an existing contact list or start a new list.
- Set the mailserver to which BigSender is to connect for sending your email messages.
- Set the POP server, username, password and other options to check for reject notification emails for purging your list of recipients with email addresses that are no longer valid.
- Set the owner login method (username & password or static IP address)
- Add more administrators and check which BigSender administrator functions each can access.
- Set the amount of time you and other administrators remain logged in before needing to login again.
- Add, modify or remove Custom Fields to the subscriber form in the user interface / main menu.
- BigSender Instant Updater
- Automatically checks to see if a newer release of BigSender is available then displays a notification to the logged-in administrator with "settings" privileges.
- Any administrator with "settings" priviliges may click on the "update" button to instantly update all your BigSender system component files to the latest-available release for your license.
- BigSender Contact Manager Tool Suite
- Search for records in your BigSender contact list.
- Browse through records in your BigSender contact list.
- View and/or print the content of any record.
- Click on the click-to-email link to send a quick message via your desktop email software.
- Click on the click-to-message link to establish an instant message connection with that contact via ICQ.
- Edit (modify) any record in your BigSender contact list.
- Remove any or all records from your BigSender contact list directly from your search results page.
- Check a box to target records for a BigSender Broadcast Session.
- BigSender Gateway Manager
- Install a new BigSender Gateway to manage a contact list.
- Uninstall a BigSender Gateway.
- BigSender List Cleaner
- Scans your BigSender contact list to fix or remove records with incorrectly-structured or missing email addresses.
- Scans your BigSender contact list to remove records with a duplicate email address.
- Saves the newly-cleaned contact list and makes a backup of the original list.
- BigSender Automated Bounce Manager
- Checks your email inbox for reject notifications.
- Checks your BigSender contact list and removes records with email addresses that are no longer valid or with invalid domains.
- Optionally removes records from your BigSender contact list with email boxes that are full (exceed storage quota).
- Deletes reject notification emails from your inbox.
- Optionally deletes all other emails from your inbox.
- Reports detail on tasks performed and optionally displays emails in your web browser upon completion.
- BigSender Message Composer
- Type or paste the plain-text version of your message.
- Type or paste the HTML-text version of your message.
- Use special BigSender Personalization Codes to distinguish your BigSender Broadcast messages from other generic and impersonal mass-email messages.
- Save a BigSender Snapshot (current Message Composer state).
- Load a BigSender Snapshot (restore a previously-saved Message Composer state).
- Convert plain-text to HTML-text message.
- Convert HTML-text to plain-text message.
- Preview a message in your web browser.
- Send a test message.
- Send a plain-text message to some or all of your recipients.
- Send a BigSender Hybrid™ plain-text / HTML-text message to some or all of your recipients.
- Compose a "teaser" or "byline" to appear under the title of your message in the dynamically-generated linked index of your BigSender Message Archive.
- Check the "archive" checkbox to publish your Broadcast message to your website in your BigSender Message Archive.
