BigSender Administrator Guide
Composing Your Message
You may type or paste your message into either the "plain-text" or the "html-text" Message Composer windows and BigSender will perform any text conversion for you as necessary or desired.
Composing a Plain-Text Message
Click on the "plain-text message" textarea field in the BigSender Message Composer and begin typing your message as you would compose your message in a word processor or your regular email software inserting single and double paragraph returns as desired for formatting. You may compose your message in a separate text editor such as Note Pad, Word Pad, SimpleText, TextEdit or Style then select, copy and paste into the Message Composer's plain-text window.
Remember: HTML tags are not valid in the plain-text window as your recipient's email software will just render them as <tag> which may be confusing.
Select the "wordwrap" value that you prefer so that your recipients who check email on handheld devices or who have older email software won't need to scroll horizontally to read your text. Though all the popular choices are represented, many consider 60 characters per line a standard.
You may use the "insert..." pulldown selector to add text or special personalization codes to your message at any time.
By leaving the "html-text message" window empty and clicking the "convert" button, BigSender will generate an HTML-text version of your plain-text message. Before broadcasting, be sure to carefully proofread the converted text to ensure it is just the way you want it.
[When clicking the "preview," "send test" or "send message," buttons, a server error may be returned. Click here. for the simple workaround in the Troubleshooting FAQ.]
Composing an HTML-Text Message with the HTML Editor Enabled
With the "html editor" Configurator setting enabled and using a qualified web browser (such as Internet Explorer 6+ for Windows or Firefox for Mac), click on the "html-text message" textarea field in the BigSender Message Composer and begin typing your message as you would compose your message in a word processor or your regular email software. Select any text and apply font attribute and paragraph formatting as desired.
To include image or other tags or to manually edit the source code of the HTML-text version of your message, just click the "view HTML source" checkbox. You must uncheck the "view HTML source" checkbox before you click any "save snapshot," "preview," "send test" or "send broadcast" buttons.
When including links and image tags, ensure they are always full URLs (such as <IMG SRC="http://mydomain/images/logo.gif">)
Composing an HTML-Text Message when the HTML Editor is Disabled
When the "html editor" Configurator setting is unchecked or BigSender has disabled this interface for you because you're using a web browser that does not provide full support for its advanced JavaScript code, the standard HTML-Text Composer is provided. Click on the "html-text message" textarea field in the BigSender Message Composer and begin typing your message as you would compose your message in a word processor or your regular email software inserting font attribute, paragraph and other HTML tags as desired.
Tip: You may compose your message in a separate text editor such as Note Pad, Word Pad, SimpleText, TextEdit or Style or in a WYSIWYG HTML-composing application then select the source code, copy and paste into the Message Composer's html-text window. Avoid building HTML documents with complex structures such as tables since common email software (such as AOL and Eudora) provide only limited HTML tag support. Do include links and image tags but ensure they are full URLs (such as <IMG SRC="http://mydomain/images/logo.gif">)
Select only the text that appears between the two "body" tags (<BODY> this is your text </BODY>) then copy and paste into the Composer's plain text window.
Tip: You may optionally use your own <HTML>, <BODY>, </BODY> and/or </HTML> tags (and any desired attributes). If any of those tags are not provided in the HTML-Text version of you Composer document, BigSender will insert it into the document for you.
Note: BigSender automatically inserts the <HEAD><TITLE>[your subject line]</TITLE></HEAD> sequence of tags at the top of the HTML-Text portion of your BigSender Hybrid message so the text you provide in BigSender Message Composer's HTML-Text field should not also contain those tags.
You may use the "insert..." pulldown selector to add text or special personalization codes to your message at any time. You may also use the HTML helper to add common HTML tags and, if you defined them in your Configurator settings, any of your three logos.
By leaving the "plain-text message" window empty and clicking the "convert" button, BigSender will generate a plain-text version of your HTML-text message. Before broadcasting, be sure to carefully proofread the converted text to ensure it is just the way you want it.
When you have the "html" checkbox checked and click the "send message" button, BigSender will automatically make sure you have a plain-text version of your message and, if not will perform a conversion and return to the Message Composer so you can check over the converted text.
BigSender requires that you provide some text in the "plain-text" Composer field even though you may have the "html" checkbox checked because of BigSender's Hybrid technology that will automatically render your image up to the capability of each of your recipient's email software. So despite your "html" preference, some recipients may only be able to view the plain-text version of your message.
